JD Wetherspoons

The €4 million planned development of JD Wetherspoons has been put on hold following objections of the over concentration on pubs along Camden Street and Wexford Street, one of the city’s largest strips for nightclubs and revellers.

Dublin City Council have requested further information from the UK publican regarding the super-pub and 98 bedroom hotel development planned for Dublin’s South inner city. Wetherspoons have expressed their desire to open 30 pubs throughout Ireland in the next five years.

In recent months there has been a vast increase in pubs and restaurants popping up within a matter of weeks from Camden Street down till Georges/Dame Street. Dublin City Council have told Wetherspoons it has ‘’concern in relation to the over-concentration of bars and restaurants on Camden Street” It also stated their concerns for noise from the proposed restaurant and outdoor seating area.

Wetherspoon consultants stated it “will deliver a commercial development that will create vibrancy at street level and restore vitality to the surrounding area. The closing time would be 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays and the proposed bar will not be a late night bar in the traditional sense they furthered.
